Annual report 2020-21

Works done during the year:

1. Pulse Polio Program

“Share the Warmth”

We along with district health authorities conducted pulse polio programs in remote tea garden areas of Jalpaiguri district. Our volunteers identified and collected beneficiary details from the health centres, anganwadi centres and garden medical centres and then along with district health authorities conducted such programs. During corona period all the health people were busy with other works however we cannot forget or ignore such a vital pulse polio program due to which our children may suffer in future. Thus we took this initiate to support the efforts of health workers to conduct the program in a smooth and planned manner.

2. Mask, Sanitizer & Vitamin distribution program

During corona period it was utmost important to wear masks, in remote villages and tea garden areas it was getting difficult to get the masks due to lockdown and other connectivity issues, hence we stepped forward to provide the tea garden workers with masks, sanitizers and also vitamin tablets in few areas. The workers were hugely benefitted and this is testimony to the fact that no workers was infected in tea garden areas in mass. Few stray incidents only were reported from tea garden areas of North Bengal.

3. Awareness campaign in remote areas

We conducted campaign and awareness program for the villagers of Rangati and Jalapara Busty of Jalpaiguri District, for precautions and preventions necessary for corona virus like wearing of mass, social distancing, frequent use of sanitizer, regular intake of vitamins, isolation and containment of infected persons, screening if any symptoms etc. These awareness programs helped in containing the spread of virus in remote tea garden areas hence workers could continue their work and earn their livelihood without much suffering.

4. Sit & Draw Competition

On 25th December 2020. we conducted our annual event of sit & draw competition. Children in large numbers participated in the event from the Rangaty & Jalapara Villages. The children were divided in to groups based on their age and specific topic for drawing were given. The children were also provided with paper and pencil, they bought their own colours. The kind of creativity on display by the children would baffle any adult. After the even children were awarded with prizes after evaluation. All children were also provided with chocolates as consolation prize for participation. Light snacks of cake, banana, biscuits, bread, eggs etc were provided to the children.

5. Health Checkup

Mass screening by way of temperature checks at regular intervals and also rapid testing by kits for suspicious cases were conducted in the remote tea garden areas so that the infection can be identified at an initial stage and preliminary medical attention and mild medicines can cure the same instead of delayed discovery of the virus and then use of oxygen and steroids for the treatment of the patients. By this effort we saw huge advantage and no spread of virus was seen in the areas undertaken by us for mass screening.
